Jun 20 ***$20 per car***
As part the national Aboriginal Awareness Week, we are honouring Canada’s First peoples. Join us for an evening of Blackfoot stories and astronomy. We will also feature a ‘what’s up’ in the summer sky’ presentation and we will have our telescopes operating and astronomers ready to answer your questions.
Storytellers
Mary Hays and Louie Soop
Mary and Louie will give a presentation called Fools, Dreamers and Star Seekers. It is a combination of a Blackfoot story told in English and Blackfoot “The Girl Who Married the Morning Star”.
Galileo Moment
Experience a Galileo moment. This is a chance for you to connect with the universe. It’s easy. First, have an astronomical experience such as look through a telescope, listen to an astronomer talk about his/her research, or maybe discover a comet, anything related to astronomy. Then get a trading card. This card will provide you with information on how to register your name in our Canada-wide listing. Once all the names are collected at the end of 2009, we will launch you into space! Well, your name, aboard the NEOSat Satellite. To learn more about the program check our website, www.astronomycalgary.com.
In the Sky
June 20 marks the beginning of summer and the sun’s further point north. The summer solstice is the longest day of the year and the shortest night.
