In Alberta, 1 in 7 men will likely develop prostate cancer, but that's not all. Men live an avergae of five fewer years than women, are a higher risk of heart attacks than women and are less likely to see a health care provider.

We want to change that.

Take the 30 day healthy habit pledge. By making small, healthy habits a part of each day, you can lower your risks. By incorporating just one change for 30 days, you can begin a healthy habit. One small change can make a big difference; one small change might even save a life.

The Calgary Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada is presenting its annual Gutsy Walk.
The goal is to raise money for research and to raise awareness about Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, which together are known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Approximately 1 in 160 Canadians are affected by IBD. Canada is believed to have one of the highest rates of IBD in the world. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are the two most common forms of IBD. Crohn’s disease involves inflammation of any part of the gastrointestinal tract, while ulcerative colitis involves only the large bowel. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are both chronic illnesses. They are painful, and can be socially isolating due to the "embarrassment factor".

Liberate your inner rock star while racing past bands, jugglers and belly dancers (we told you it was awesome). When you participate in Rock the House Run™, you’re helping sick children and their families stay together at Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta – that makes you kind of a big deal. So on September 21, join over 1,500 Calgarians at Market Mall as they run or walk for Ronald McDonald House, without even being chased.

What you need to know:
• Rock the House Run™ is fun experienced runners and the entire family
• You can rock out in the 10K & 5K run, 5K walk or the 1K McDonald's Go Active walk (perfect for little legs)
• Funds raised at the run directly support out-of-town families staying at Ronald McDonald House – awesome, eh?

Note: We promise to not throw colour at you, resulting in dry mouth and sore eyes. We also won’t make you crawl through muddy water or encourage you to run in your underwear (although you could if you want). You will also not be asked to run in the dark, looking for neon lights. You will however feel like a total rock star running for sick kids and their families staying at Ronald McDonald House. Plus there’ll be live entertainment along the route – now that rocks.

Cutting horse competitions got their start in the Wild West, where a good cutting horse was invaluable to cowboys when they were chasing cattle and trying to separate certain individuals from the herd to vaccinate or brand. Now, cutting is one of the world’s fastest growing equine sports with competitions all over North America. In fact, the Calgary Stampede Cutting Horse Futurity presented by Wrangler is one of the highest profile events. From October 10 through 14 the top open and non-professional riders will be in Calgary with their horses in tow. The focus of the event are the Futurity classes – those limited to 3 year old horses – and includes high level competitions for all ages of horses as they advance through their training. It’s an exciting time as these equine athletes show their skills and riders compete for more than $300,000 in cash and awards.

The Rocky Mountain Rally is Canada's high altitude car rally!
Held in Kananaskis Country, this is a fun spectator friendly event. Bring your lawn chairs, a cooler, some bug spray, and a few friends, and enjoy a day outdoors watching Canada's top rally drivers zoom by!
Rally car racing is a popular spectator sport throughout Europe and North America. It is the only sport where people will find real cars, on real roads, going real fast. The addition of rally to the well known X-Games in the U.S. has recently made the sport jump in popularity. The Rocky Mountain Rally is Round 2 of the Canadian Rally Championship, a series televised on TSN/RDI across Canada.

This timed trial challenges handlers and their stock dogs to move three sheep through a defined course and into a pen, in the fastest time. Keeping the sheep under control and on course can save valuable seconds.
The handler controls the dog, either through whistle or voice commands. The handler must stay in the circle until all the sheep have come through the chute. Time stops when all the sheep are in the pen and the gate is closed.
