Calgary Public Galleries
This unique exhibition space in the EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts +15 pedway system overlooks Centre Court from the second floor of the Centre. The glass-walled space is most conducive to sculpture and installation. Exhibitions are selected through calls for submissions and curatorial practice and run for three month intervals.
Officially opened in 2009, the Founders' Gallery was created with the goal of contributing to Canadians' understanding of military experience by displaying historic and contemporary works of art and related artifacts. The gallery hosts local, national and international art and heritage collections with a new exhibit every few months. Mon to Fri 9 am – 5 pm, Sat and Sun 9:30 am – 4 pm.
Named in honour of distinguished artist, author and teacher, Dr. Illingworth "Buck" Kerr, the gallery is committed to the presentation and appreciation of contemporary art through an innovative year-round program of exhibitions, publications, lectures, screenings and related events. Tues to Sat 10 am - 6 pm.
Located in the heart of downtown Calgary - visitors experience Glenbow Museum’s diverse exhibits, special programs and vast collections including Asian, Contemporary, Modernist and Historical Art. Daily 9 am – 5 pm, Sun noon - 5 pm. Adult $14, Sen $10, Stu $9, Family $28.00; Members and under 6 free. Glenbow Shop open daily 10 am – 5:30 pm.
The FN Gallery is an arm of the Calgary Aboriginal Arts Awareness Society (1988). It's focus is on exhibiting Aboriginal contemporary art forms that include both traditional, post-modern, new media as well as mixed media. An offshoot of the FN Gallery, the FN Haute Cafe programs writing, video/film events as well as lectures and workshops.
Themed exhibitions change monthly and feature local and regional artistic expression in a range of themes and mediums. Exhibiting artist members range from accomplished artists to the emerging beginner, offering a diverse look at artmaking in southern Alberta. Mon to Fri 10 am - 5 pm, Sat and Sun noon - 5 pm.
This student run gallery, located in the Main Hall, exhibits student work and is supported and run by the ACADSA, with the Co-ordinator and the three assistants all being full-time students. It is modeled on public galleries and is intended to provide important experience for the students exhibiting in the gallery as well as for the gallery staff.
The Art Gallery of Calgary is an interactive and dynamic forum for contemporary art exhibitions and activities that foster appreciation and understanding of visual culture. Tues to Sat 10 am - 5 pm. To 10 pm every first Thursday of the month.
Established in 1965, the Mezzanine Gallery showcases local artists expecially University of Calgary alumni. The Gallery also supports the Department of Art by providing an exhibiting space for its Undergraduate and Graduate students. Located on University Theatre Mezzanine Floor. Open Sep - Jun, Mon to Fri, 1 pm - 4:30 pm and by appt.
The Leighton Art Centre is situated on 80 acres of spectacular landscape in the Alberta foothills, 15 minutes southwest of Calgary. This Alberta Historic Resource houses the former home of landscape painter A.C. Leighton. They offer changing exhibitions, art sales, art workshops and children's programming. Dedicated to the presentation of contemporary Canadian visual arts, architecture and design within a context of international art, the gallery is engaged in the advancement of knowledge and understanding of contemporary art practices through a balanced program of visual art exhibitions to the public of Calgary and visitors. A broadly focused public gallery that is an integral part of the University of Calgary. 18 to 24 exhibitions per year focus on contemporary western Canadian art and on numismatics, reflecting the museum's two major collections. Mon to Fri 10 am - 5 pm, Thur to 9 pm (May through Aug, Mon to Fri 10 am - 5 pm only).
