Calgary Zoos & Aquariums
The Calgary Zoo features more than 1,000 animals from all over the world. The Canadian Wilds, Aspen Woodlands, Rocky Mountains and the Northern Forests habitats are dedicated to animals native to North America. The Botanical Garden features several different gardens including a Butterfly Garden, a Tropical Garden and an Arid Garden. Near the main zoo entry point is the entrance to the Prehistoric Park, which features life-size models of dinosaurs that existed in the Mesozoic Period.
Calgary's first and only corn maze! Explore giant corn mazes, offering over 4 kilometers of fun. Once visitors find their way out of the corn, they can stop by the petting zoo, try many other fun activities such as the corn cannons, jumping pillows, grain train, and mini mazes. A great place for families, friends, and groups. Open late July to mid-October each year.
Butterfield Acres is a hands-on farm that is enjoyable for children of all ages! Pony rides, goat milking, and tractor rides are just some of the activities that visitors can participate in while visiting the farm yard. Their famous pumpkin hunts run all throughout October, a special event that kids will remember for a long time.
The Calgary Zoo’s Botanical Gardens span six acres of land and include more than 4,000 plant species that are ideal for growing in Calgary’s ever-changing climate. The gardens include Specialty Gardens with various creative displays and a Conservatory with Arid Gardens, a Rain Forest Garden and a Butterfly Garden. A variety of shrubs, perennials, annuals and trees are all included in the collection
