Tours & Activities in Calgary
Although Calgary may get down to freezing temperatures, this Albertan city is a hotbed for tours and activities year round. Fast-pace sports such as downhill skiing and snowboarding are a couple of wintertime favourites in Calgary, while fishing and golf are among the ways to unwind on a warm summer day in the city. Whatever the season, one can always expect a long list of tours and activities to try in Calgary.
WINTER ACTION
Whether an athlete with dreams of Olympic stardom or just one who enjoys sports for fun, Calgary is a great place to engage in winter activities. Since Calgary's winters are typically long and white, locals and visitors have plenty of time to hit the slopes or frozen ponds. The city also boasts a multitude of indoor recreation centres, which house facilities for such sports as ice skating, curling and hockey. A few highlights on Calgary's winter sport scene include the Olympic Oval, Olympic Plaza and Canada Olympic Park, which were all used during the 1988 Winter Olympics. Olympic Oval and Olympic Plaza are wonderful spots for public ice skating, while Canada Olympic Park is a popular local and national destination for skiing and snowboarding.
If Olympic sports are a little too ambitious, Calgary features an assortment of other wintry activities. For instance, snowmobile tours and horse-drawn sleigh rides are both fun ways to spend time outdoors on a sunny winter day.
SUMMER FUN
Calgary may have been host to the Winter Olympics but that doesn't mean that summer activities aren't big in the city. Keen golfers can practice their swing on a variety of private and public courses with winding creeks and towering trees. Confederation Park Municipal Golf Course, Country Hills Golf Club and McKenzie Meadows Golf Course are just a few of the popular golf courses in the city.
