Canadian Pacific Railway The Canadian Pacific was build from 1881 to 1885 as the first transcontinental railroad network in Canada linking Montreal to Vancouver. William Cornelius Van Horne was the executive put in charge of completing the monstrous task of linking the country by railway. The efforts of the CPR were pivotal to the colonization of the country in the 19th century. Still in operation today, the CPR is an icon of Canadian nationalism.
